Hunter - How do I get special abilities for my pet? |
There are a number of special behaviors or abilities that can be taught to pets in the World of Warcraft. In order to teach your pet to perform them, there are several things that you will need.
First, you must have the Beast Training ability. To get it, you will need to complete a quest that you will be given shortly after getting your first pet. The ability will appear in the General tab of your spellbook.
Second, you will need to know the ability that you are trying to teach. When you first learn how to train your pet, you learn the basic levels of Growl. Higher ranks of this ability can be bought from the pet trainer in all major cities when you reach the appropriate level. Other abilities must be learned by observing a pet that knows them instinctively. For example, you might tame a wolf that already knows the bite ability. Once you see him use it a few times, you will figure out how it is done and be able to teach your other pets to do the same thing. Experiment with taming a wide variety of beasts and see what you learn!
Finally, your pet has to be eligible to learn the ability. Some types of pets just can not learn particular special abilities. A tortoise is never going to learn to dash anywhere, no matter how hard you try to teach it. Also, each special ability costs a number of training points. Your pet accumulates these points as it gains levels and as its loyalty increases.
Once all of these elements are in place, simply use Beast Training and a dialogue box will appear listing all of the abilities you know. Select the one you want, and click the Train button.
Special abilities can be activated from the pet action bar. You can either click them once to use them immediately or right-click them to turn on auto-casting for the ability. If it is turned on, the pet will automatically use the ability whenever it makes sense.
If an ability does not appear on the pet action bar or you have taken it off and want to restore it, summon your pet and open your spellbook and look on the bottom for the Pet tab. Click on this to see a listing of all of the abilities you have taught to your pet, which you can drag to the pet action bar.
