How do Warlock soul shards work?
A soul shard is the condensed life force of a creature, which warlocks can consume to power many of their spells. Managing your supply of soul shards is one of the challenges of playing a warlock.
A soul shard is used up from your inventory every time you summon a demon more powerful than an imp. They can also be turned into items such as soulstones and healthstones that can be given to other players. Finally, some of the powerful spells available to the warlock require a soul shard.
To get a soul shard, you must be casting Drain Soul on a creature at the moment of its death. Since Drain Soul takes all of your concentration, it can be helpful to have a pet or party member ready to finish the creature off while you are busy casting. If this process is successful, a soul shard will appear in your inventory once the creature dies. You cannot get soul shards from opponents that are drastically weaker than you. A monster who would give you no experience points or a player that would give you no honor points (anyone whose name is grey while targeted) will also not grant you a soul shard.
