If you are not in a guild or if your guild has not yet designed a Tabard, it will be gray. It can also appear gray if your current guild has re-designed their Tabard within the last 24 hours. If you are in a guild with a tabard design and your tabard is still gray, logging out and logging back in will generally resolve the issue.
