I. Intro
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I decided to make my own guide since I thought it would be fun to share some tips with other mages. 60 Undead Mage..anyways im willing to share my spec build and tips in pvp against each classes.

Here is my current spec, which I would recommend for both PvE/PvP. Arcane/Fire build 21/30.

Arcane Talents (21 points)

Your Scorch will burn the target of 40% of teh damage.

III. PvE
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Every mage should know that range is the Mage's best friend. When casting spells its best to get the farthest range possible. When fighting mobs, I usually get range and cast a Pyroblast, along with Presence of Mind and Fireball. Then I would cast a Fire Blast, and depending on how close they are I will cast a Scorch. If they get too close, I would use a Frost Nova to root them, and either Scorch them to death or use my other instant spells.

Mages are not meant to take a lot of psyhical damage. As a matter of fact its best for a Mage to not take any damage at all. Thats why Mages are given spells that are able to break free from roots and stuns, and times that are almost impossible to escape from. BLINK..is one of the best Mage spells ever. Although they are not used much in PvE they allow you escape from mobs when you can't handle them, or you can use them just to get range. BLINK has much more use in PvP.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
IV. PvP
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I will demonstrate a guide for each and every class. Mages CAN own, but not all classes, as mages have weaknesses too as well. These are just a few tips I would share when fighting each of these classes.

Vs Rogues - Medium to Hard
Rogues are the most fun classes to play with. In the beggining of the fight, usually the rogue would stealth so they can backstab me and kill me in 3 hits. What I would do is cast Mana Shield and Ice Armor on myself, and wait for the rogue to attack. When they charge you I would usually blink out of sight and polymorph. Smart rogues would stealth instantly afterwards, and if that does happen cast a Frost Nova or any other AE spell to make them visible, and poly them. After they are sheeped, get range and cast a Fireball, along with Presence of Mind + Pyroblast. At Level 60 that should total up to 1500+ damage with 300-400 burn damage. When the rogue starts chasing you, cast Scorch and Frost Nova when they try to get real close. Re-cast Scorch several times along with Fire Blast and if they get their hands on you Blink out of sight again. Repeat this process until the rogue burns to hell and dies.

Vs. Warriors - Easy to Medium
Warriors will most likely charge you in the beggining. Blink out of sight and polymorph, get range and cast Fireball + PoM Pyroblast. Scorch and Fireblast until they get close, and Frost Nova at the right time. Repeat this process.. your #1 objective is to not get hit, same with the rogue.

Vs. Druids - Medium to Hard
Druids can be tough ones, because they have the ability to heal themselves. When starting the duel cast a Polymorph on them(or Blink to confuse them then Poly). Get range and only cast a Fireball along with Fire Blast and Scorch. Most Druid's i've fought with will use Instant Heal mid-fight. WHen they do, wait for them to heal to full health or near full health and cast a Polymorph. While their sheeped, heal yourself with Firstaid or chug a potion and use Evocation to restore mana for Round 2. Repeat the same process of nuking except use PoM + Pyro when you have the chance. When you see their hands glowing green, use a Counter-Spell and hit them with all the instant spells you have and you should be able to win the match.

Vs. Shamans - Hard to Very Hard
Shamans are like a combination of a Warrior and a Druid. They hit hard, they cast instant spells that hurt, and they can heal themselves. If they don't drop a grounding totem, start off with a Polymorph. Get range, and cast a Fireball with PoM Pyro. Cast Scorch and Fireblast, if they use instant shock on you don't panic. Use Frost Nova when they get close, get enough range so they cant use their instant spells on you, and re-cast Scorch/Fire Blast several times. When they try to heal, cast a Counter-spell and finish it up with instant spells(Blast Wave, Cone of Cold, Arcane Explo)

Vs. Warlocks - Medium to Hard
In the start of the duel, cast a Fire Shield, Dampen Magic and Mage Armor instead of Ice Armor. The warlock will be likely to cast tons of curses on you then make you run like a dumbass until you die. Undeads are lucky because they have Fear resistance(Will of the Forsaken). But anyway, you can avoid Fear by using Counter-Spell when their hands glow dark. Anyways, cast Fire Shield, Will of Forsaken if you have it, and cast PoM Pyro and Fire Blast and use all the instant nukes you have. Getting close to a warlock and using tons of AE spells are okay too. Usually warlocks can be hard because they have high health, but they should not be too hard. Casting polymorph on a warlock is useless because the warlock will most likely have resistance due to their pet. If you want, you can start off by killing the pet, then polymorphing the warlock and use Evocation/Firstaid if you need to.

Vs. Hunters - Medium
Hunters are fun but they can be annoying if they get their root on you. To start this duel, cast Mage Armor and Dampen Magic. I do not recommend using Polymorph on the pet. Although it sounds like a great idea, it will take too long and by then you will probably be down half of your health. When the duel starts, use a PoM Pyro, Blink, Frost Nova their pet and get close to the hunter and cast Fire Blast along with Cone of Cold, Blast Wave, Arcane Explo til they die. Use a counter-spell because believe it or not, it locks some of their spells.

Vs. Priests - Hard to Impossible
Shadow Priests are tough ones. They will start by casting Holy Shield, you cast nukes on them..then you'll see Absorb, Absorb, Absorb, next thing you know you run around somewhere and once you get a control of yourself you're already down on health. Even if you are dealing damage to them, they will likely fear you and heal themselves. My advice is..cast Mage Armor, Dampen Magic before the duel, start off with a Polymorph, get farthest range as possible, cast Fireball + PoM Pyro. Scorch repeadetly Fire Blast. When they get close, cast Will of Forsaken and use all the instant nukes you can. When their health goes down by 25% cast a Counter-Spell even if they are not trying to heal, and re-cast Arcane Explo til they die. Do not forget to use Blink most of the time to confuse the oponent.

Vs. Mages - Depends on Skill
Beating other mages all depends on skill. Depending on their Spec, I would cast Fire Shield or Ice Shield. Cast Mage Armor as well, and Dampen Magic. Start with a Polymorph..if you get Poly'd first then you can poly them back after you gain control, and you can heal yourself and re-gain mana while their sheeped. Anyways, cast a Fire Ball when in range, and PoM Pyro and like with the Warlock and the Priest, cast all the AE's you have. Use Counter-Spell when their health is below 25%, and you are most likely to win the match.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
V. Equipment
Equipment is very important for a Mage. A good mage will not look for the AP of the item but the stats it gives. In PvP, I would look for items of the Eagle(+int/+sta). Eagle items are best for mages because this will give them a high amount of health, along with high mana. Owl(+int/+spi) items are the best for PvE mages. Why spirit and not stamina? Because spirit increases the health/mana regenration rate, so when in solo'ing or grouping for dungeons you can recover health/mana much faster.

There are also sets out there for Mages. I have read somewhere that Dreadmist(Uber Warlock Set) does good for Mages as well, some say better than Magisters Set(for Mages). I only have one of the Dreadmist sets and one of the Magisters set, as I get more I am willing to post more about them.
